I haven’t shown much spirit here, just stated my issues with the software. I want to finish this review by saying that I actually think that there is a good place for Lightroom in the market. And that’s where my issue with the ADOBE software lies. It is my belief that most of the time you are very limited in what you can do with these tools. Now, you can perform many functions, but I believe that you can do many of those functions better with non-Adobe products. While I appreciate the accessibility of the alternatives, I miss some of the more advanced features of the flagship “Adobe” software. And that’s what drives me to the next platform on my list.

Lightroom and Lightroom CC are comparable to Adobe Photoshop CS6. They both import and export like CS6. Both have a slightly different workflow and features from the more hardcore Photoshop software. Obviously, the most serious photographers are going to be on pure Photoshop. I used Lightroom as a good way to work on my photos since my graphics skills are poor. I use Lightroom to change the color of my photos, correct exposure, lighting, and general image composition. Lightroom also has a great catalog, and the best-of-breed functionality makes it the perfect tool for organizing your images. I can open my catalog, rearrange my images, and view them all at once. Lightroom has some of the best tools for finding duplicate files, too. But, you are restricted with what you can do with marketing and quick presets. Lightroom’s feature set is very similar to the “Business Lightroom” product I’ve tried, but it does not include the features of “Adobe Creative Cloud”. Which says to me that Lightroom is absolutely no substitute for Adobe’s flagship product.

Depending on the size of the image, it could take seconds for images to open in Photoshop. If you’re opening a large number of images, you may notice that Photoshop is really slow to load. To speed up the process, you can click the Optimize button at the bottom right of the screen to make Photoshop perform quicker. You can also use an external hard drive to store your images for quick access. There is also a single cross-shaped tool, which lets you select a precise part of the image, and apply a mask to it. This tool lets you change the brightness and contrast only within selected regions. No more smoothing or histogram-based corrections. If you have a dedicated RAW editor such as “Lightzone from Foremost”, select “thumbnail” from the “Share” drop-down menu and drag your images into the share window. Now, instead of dragging Lightroom files into the share window, you can simply drag a Lightzone folder into the open share window and let the software choose which images within that folder you want to share. This, in short, lets you share any kind of image without getting all the problems with Lightroom compatibility or unreliability.

In all honesty, my mood about the new Photoshop CS6 is not so good. Despite the new improvements that concern me, this just doesn’t feel right as a successor of Lightroom.
