The problem here is that you’re creating a ghost entry in the directory you’re creating the torrent in. If you create a torrent file, it’ll be in the directory you run the process. Simply cd to the directory before you execute the command.

We see this as the perfect opportunity to use our 3D technology for a new purpose, namely to train the community in 3D design and engineering.

We are looking for volunteers with professional or advanced 3D design experience who are not able to undertake a traditional apprenticeship. We are recruiting volunteers who are experts in the areas of 3D design, 3D CAD, 3D CAM and 3D printing. These volunteers will be given the opportunity to continue work on their projects at DCU while working with up to 12 other volunteers

Okay so ¿what’s wrong?
I can download few torrents, with IDM but… after a few minutes in some cases, the file download stops. Maybe it’s because of some issues with my internet connection because I’ve tested with different cables and all fail without any error message.
After this download process I can see the *.torrent file in the downloads folder but when I click on it, I see a message:

You are trying to open an archive file, which is not supported.

And the window closes itself.

This is usually caused by a malicious.torrent file.
It has been reported that:

If the software running on the host receives this.torrent file, it will typically create a.torrent file and try to open the archive. However, a malicious file would have been created that the software will not recognize.
You can try to run the following command on the host:
strings ~/Downloads/CrimeMod.Torrent | grep -i id

If you see any lines containing:
i id=c4b44ada-f2b2-4d6a-85b3-7eb62bd4e585

That is a signature of the torrent and we can assume that you are dealing with a malicious file.
A plausible scenario is that someone was testing and decided to test it out on your computer. They got to your computer, downloaded the torrent, extracted the archive, replaced the archive with a malicious one. This malicious file is what has given you that error message.
You can run the following command to try and see what is going on with the file you downloaded:
md5sum ~/Downloads/CrimeMod.Torrent | grep -i md5

If you get any messages back indicating:

sha256sum  /tmp/tmpwvmtuiHa/file.torrent  789fb74fe599
