one of the main function of the citrix licensing server is to manage the product licenses. with that function the licensing server can be used to manage all citrix products with a license. the citrix license server will manage licenses and keep track of the expiration date of the products.
depending on the citrix product you can choose between one or more license files for the citrix license server to use. you can use one license file for several products or you can use a different license file for each product. when there are licensing difference between the products, the citrix license server will only be able to use one license file.
when you purchase a new license file from citrix it will contain a new activation code which will be sent to you by e-mail. it is strongly recommended that you enter the activation code into the citrix license server. the license server will then start the license file download and apply the license file on your citrix xenapp 6.5 software.
the license management console is also using the apache tomcat service so changing the port number is done in the configuration files of tomcat. the file server.xml can be found at c:program filescitrixlicensinglmctomcatconf directory. in the file you will find the section as displayed in the figure below. change the port number value with the port number you would like to use. again restart the citrix licensing service to activate the new port number.
open the license file (again) with a text editor, preferable wordpad or third party tool like ultraedit (in this the structure of the file is best readable). in the begin you will find the line server this_host hostname= or server this_host any (in the startup license file). add after this part the number you would like to use without any additional parameters. so for example
the api command line is very powerful and provides information on current, previous, and future license usage for a client. you can also see the required licenses for a virtual server, and what licenses are required for the virtual server’s network endpoints.
the citrix licensing manager api also provides a command line tool that you can use to generate a license file. this is perfect for generating a license file and managing licenses on a large scale server farm.
the license file is generated in the /client directory in your citrix installation. you can use this file to reinstall the license server and the citrix client from the windows installer. you can use the msi install file found in the mycitrix website to reinstall the license server and the citrix client.
the configuration server uses the default ports 80 and 443. the license management console can be found by following the following url:> citrix xenapp 6.5 license file c refer to the linux / unix system administrators guide for information on how to change the default permissions for the start.licensing file.
this means that if the file does not exist, the administration server will use the default configuration. if the file does exist, it will read its contents and any changes made will be saved for the next time the license server restarts. this file is located at c:program filescitrixlicensinglmctomcatconf directory. a sample of the file is shown below.
if you would like to use a different port, you can modify the port number in this file. for more information on how to modify the license server configuration, refer to the linux / unix system administrators guide. use of the administration server requires the administrator password. the password is set in the following file: client_credentials.xml.
