Cities in Motion 2 is about the transportation system. There are more than 200 different modes of transportation available for your city. While the basic simulated transport comes in freight, tram, and bus, the game also has monorails, ferries, and even bicycles (!).

How the game is played is determined by the shapes in the level, and the player can only jump by colliding with another object. You can unlock colours and powers to manipulate those objects and hit them with the relative force you want. Hitting a coloured block increases your colour energy, and hitting a power-up or speed power increases the energy more. When you hit an object, it’s depleted and destroyed, and there are three types of platforms: blocks, which can only be changed if you are using a colour on them; open platforms, which you can jump on; and closed platforms, which are dangerous and which you need to jump over. If you’re hit by an object that’s destroying itself, you don’t die, but the platforms and objects after that one become set to a fixed configuration, so you can’t go backwards or forwards. In between the levels, there are power-ups that you can collect to give you increased velocity, and you can jump down a wall in order to get to a higher platform. The game would be much easier if you could always fall and die, but you can’t. Killing the objects is an important part of the game. You need to balance your colour choices and power-ups to get through each stage. Killing an object doesn’t consume your colour, and you can always jump back up from an open platform. If you are hit by anything else, you’re dead, but if you hit a platform, it’s deactivated and you can walk on it. When you’re invincible, there’s not much point in trying to pick up a power-up because you’re likely to just get hit by an object that destroys itself. The areas that look dangerous on the ground might just be wide open, so you need to walk really carefully.8/10 Game Informer
