Figure 6-7 shows a square image in the RGB color mode. To make it easier to select the edges and corners of the image, I set the image to grayscale.

Although the image appears to be a solid color, it’s actually a grayscale image. I can change the color of the square by using the Channels tool. That’s the row of boxes shown in the Tools panel, just to the left of the Layer dialog box, and described on Getting to Know Your Tools. The boxes are numbered 1, 2, and 3. If I select the box marked 2, I see the squares inside each box—in this case the two white squares and the black square shown in Figure 6-8. (If you’re in the Layers dialog box, you see only the boxes and nothing inside them.)

How to store dates on Google App Engine using Python?

I’m new to Python and I’m using Google App Engine (for the first time). I would like to store the creation date of entries in a db, but I can’t figure out how to do this.
I read on this page that you can’t store dates in the data store, but there is a very vague explanation why. What about if you’re using datastore-mapper?
EDIT: After researching a bit more, I realize that datastore-mapper can’t handle boolean and string fields.

After studying the datastore-mapper documentation, I saw that I had two options:

Store the date as UTC time, because we all know that UTC time is
the only time that is universally predictable.
If you really want to store dates as user time, you can add a timestamp property to your entity, but then you have to ensure that you always request the creation time of the entity and that you update the timestamp when the date changes.

On the other hand, having to worry about user time is almost never a good idea.
So I went for the easiest option, and now I just store the date as UTC in the datastore.

I just finished porting a project over to app engine and quickly ran into the same problem as the OP. All my date fields started becoming UTC. What I finally figured out is that app engine is treating all dates as UTC in the datastore.

Common Photoshop Brushes

While there are many different brush types, each is fairly easy to understand and use. New Photoshop users usually have a hard time distinguishing the brush types, so we’ll take a look at them all in detail.

Brush Types

Brush types are called normal, regular, and expert. Each type is slightly different from the next, although there are similarities.
The normal brush is the most basic type. It has a small head and affects the entire canvas. The regular brush can be used to paint on a section of the canvas, adding more detail to the image. The expert brush can add detail to an existing region by giving it a special type of paint.
Brush Size

The size of the brush affects how much paint is applied and how detail you’ll see with the brush. A small brush is generally used for filling small areas and smoothing minor details. A large brush is a more accurate tool and can give more control over the paint. Using a brush that’s too large will clog the brush with paint, and you won’t be able to accurately paint with it.

Brush Tip Style

The size and shape of the brush can also have an effect on how the brush spreads paint. A soft brush is generally used for adding details in small areas. While a hard brush does most of the work in large areas, it will spread the paint much further than a softer brush.
Other Brush Options

The shape, hardness, and spacing of a brush’s bristles can all have an effect on how it paints. You can control these with the brush size and shape. You can also alter the tip of the brush to make the brush apply more paint to the canvass or more paint to the brush itself.

Easier Ways to Create Brushes

Brushes aren’t the only way to create various effects. If you want to use paintbrushes, simply click and hold the paintbrush tool, and you’ll see a colored line appear. Click somewhere in an empty area of the image, and the paintbrush’s color will fill that area.

Another easy way to create a new brush is to click and drag while holding down Shift to make a diagonal stroke. This creates a brush with a different color. To create a red brush, click and drag toward the right-hand side of the canvas, while holding down Shift.

Brushes also allow you to add paint or a stroke to an existing brush.

As the benchmarks show, at the moment, the game should be playable on the majority of PCs, although anything without an SLI compatible motherboard is likely to struggle at 1080p resolution.
This is another game that’s likely to look quite nicely on a big high-end rig, though.
PROS:
A great looking game on the surface with a nice, dark art style. It’s also got some of the best looking character models you’ll find anywhere.
It has some solid animation and it looks good all the way through
