i don’t think that the author meant that the audio quality is lost. what he probably meant is that the file size of the sound will be increased due to some parameters (i don’t really know what they are).
the author of the program was working on the files while he was recording them. he had the program recording the whole time. when he listened to the sound afterwards, he found that the high-quality sound was distorted. the distortion was not caused by the sound itself but by the way that he was recording the sound. he therefore decided to convert the file to a lower-quality file. the low-quality file was about half the size of the original file.
the one thing that i have been looking for is a way to export a single track from the source. i have a few hundred of my uncle’s vinyl, and i want to digitize them at a decent bitrate. currently i have the option to select a single track and export it as a.wav file. this gets the data saved, but i lose some of the fidelity. i can set the bitrate to 160kbps and it will capture the data, but the sound quality suffers. my uncle has some old 78 rpm records which have not been touched since the early 70s, and i want to be able to digitize them. the sound quality is much higher than cd, and i want to be able to make a copy that people can play on their audio systems. this is much more than a transcription.
