The Info Box contains information about the currently active tool. You will find important information here, including the tool’s name, description and keyboard shortcut.

For example, the Tool name is “Curve”, the description is “Use circular movements to smooth the gradation of the curve”, and the shortcut is Ctrl+K.

4. The Layers Window

The Layers Window shows layers that are used in an image. Some layers are visible on the image, some are hidden, and some layers are invisible until they are selected.

Layers can be selected by clicking the relevant area or by clicking on a layer in the Layers Window.

By selecting an existing layer, you can edit it or merge it with another layer.

To make a new layer, click the New Layer icon, and then click the Create New Layer icon.

By default, the active layer (the layer in the Layers Window you are working with) is visible on the bottom of the Layers Window. You can change the display of the Layers Window by clicking and dragging the bar that separates the Layers Window and the Info Box.

Penaeidins are functionally related thioredoxin-like proteins with thiol-dependent antioxidant properties that are expressed in the hepatopancreas of Pacific white shrimp Penaeus vannamei. In the present study, the penaeidin-1 gene was isolated from the gills of P. vannamei (pv-1). The open reading frame consists of an 82-bp 5′-untranslated region (UTR), a 536-bp 3′-UTR and an open reading frame encoding 177 amino acids. The deduced amino acid sequence of the pv-1 showed a high degree of homology to those of penaeidins from other shrimp species, and phylogenetic analysis also indicated that the pv-1 is closely related to penaeidins. To produce anti-pv-1 antiserum, a pv-1 DNA fragment was cloned into pET-21d(+) with an N-terminal His-tag. The recombinant plasmid pET-21d(+)-pv-1 was subsequently transformed into Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). The expression of recombinant pv-1 was confirmed by SDS-PAGE and Western blot analysis using the specific anti-pv-1 antiserum. Recombinant pv-1 was purified with Ni-NTA affinity chromatography. Antioxidant activity was determined by measuring the scavenging capacity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Recombinant pv-1 had a higher DPPH scavenging activity and it also displayed potent thioredoxin-like activity in vitro. In vivo, the expression of pv-1 was induced by dietary supplementation with vitamin C or vitamin E, indicating that pv-1 is involved in resistance to oxidative stress. Heterologous host-directed expression of pv-1 in Spodoptera exigua larvae was achieved by microinjection with the codon-optimized pv-1 expression vector. The recombinant fusion protein pv-1-thioredoxin was expressed in the midgut and showed thioredoxin activity. This is the first report on the heterologous expression of the shrimp penae
