The computer programs REFPROP, REFPROPAS, and REFPROPAS2, are user-friendly FORTRAN programs that implement the gas and vapor thermodynamics equations to predict properties of binary mixtures of refrigerants R125 and R152a with additives R1234ze(E) and R1234yf and flow under mass flow and molar flow conditions. REFPROP links to gas and vapor properties from the literature. REFPROPAS was developed to evaluate experimental data for R152a mixtures including R1234ze(E) and R1234yf. REFPROPAS2 is an improved version of REFPROPAS. It includes several enhancements, primarily the addition of small molar fractions of R1234zc and R1234y. Based on REFPROP v4.0 (but not the REFPROP v4.1 release), REFPROPAS and REFPROPAS2 are improved, efficient, and more user-friendly. A full description of the enhancements can be found in the text file “improvements.txt” in the REFPROP program package.
As far as we know, the code is a first pass at software modeling of heat transfer, gas mass-flow, and properties of mixtures of refrigerant and liquid transients. The software uses the extended corresponding states equation model for viscosity. The viscosity model depends on an interaction constant parameter for each refrigerant pair and two-phase activity coefficients, calculated from a polynomial expansion in mass-fraction of each refrigerant component. The viscosity model parameter is tuned by error minimization with the equilibrium data in the NIST software REFPROP.
