A chartered accountant with a knack for enterprise,
Srinivas Bhaskar’s father had told him that he should pursue a professional career.
He married early and delivered his first son. Srinivas never completely fulfilled his parents’ expectations.
In the early 90s, with aspirations of playing a full-time music industry, he dropped out of college and spent the next few years sleeping by the seashore.

In rural India, marriage happens at an early age. There is hardly any choice left for the girl. She is either born into it or it is forced upon her. Despite the major cultural factor of arranged marriages, this movie brings in a new dimension to the issue. What the movie dares to ask is whether arranged marriages are indeed a bad thing. If theres any good, it is the romantic story of a young girl trying to escape the confines of her arranged marriage. At the same time, she manages to lose her life in the process.

Khichdi is a healthy and light recipe, full of proteins. It is also easy to digest and does not irritate your stomach. Hence when Indians are down with fever or especially stomach aches, they eat khichdi. It is so healthy that even doctors recommend this.

MOONG DAL KHICHHDI (rasam) meaning yellow lentils & rice with spice & masala. A traditional Indian household meal significantly served in Gujarat state. People in the Indian subcontinent love eating it for either lunch or dinner. Okay, the story doesnt end here. Theres something more. Its a healthy and light recipe, full of proteins. One can understand the director’s frustration in LOVE KHICHDI, with a film that aspires to have some fun and some rhyme and reason, but could never come up with it. Perhaps the makers of the film had too high an aim for a film that starts out looking like a commercial and finally lands up as a documentary. In LOVE KHICHDI there is a clash between what the director wants to show and what is happening on screen. There is no clear plot here. Some of the songs that accompany the action could be taken out and it would make this a better film.
LOVE KHICHDI is an overlong film. There are countless subplots. There are some really classy dialogue sequences. There are also a few sub-plots that don’t quite work. Consequently, LOVE KHICHDI comes across as a film that is trying to do too many things at once.
That’s the problem with LOVE KHICHDI. It tries to do too many things at once. The film’s ambition is grand enough to make you wonder whether Srinivas Bhashyam had sufficient documentary skills to pull it off. Instead, the film begins with some wistful visuals of Bhopal, followed by a credit sequence. Once the credit sequence is over, we get some very gaudy visuals of the protagonist’s kitchen…accompanied by a long-winded song. This is followed by a song that is designed to make you believe you’re in a restaurant. There is another long song. Another song that appears to be in the countryside. Again, another song that appears to be in a restaurant.
LOVE KHICHDI is the kind of film that has so many concepts that it feels like the director can’t decide what to do next. The climax of the film is cringeworthy. Suddenly, we get some funny song (“Na jaana na jaana na jaana”) and a love story that never really gets going.
