earlier versions of the long dark also had a two basic map types: hardcore (which only became available later, at launch, in the beta period), and normal. in the first version of the game, this was a single style, and only referred to whether the game allowed maximum player death as a default setting (you can set the game to always take full damage to avoid this setting), and whether hard or normal difficulty should be the default for the game after it booted for the first time.

ice lakes and the dreamworks-published versions of spyro both feature battle music composed by chris hülsbeck, but whilst the versions of the game released by activision feature the soundtracks of the original games, the tracks in ice lakes use the composer’s original midi source music. in this way, ice lakes could be the only game to feature the battle music from the original game (in addition to some other battle music from other titles).
both the male and female spyro are avatars created by the player. the chance to choose a voice, as well as changing the gender of the avatar can be done during the game. for example, if the player chooses james spader or gisele bundchen as his or her spyro voice during the beginning of the game, and continues until the battle with soopa, when the character is not renamed, they will be named james spader, and the voice of the player who started the battle will be selected instead. this would generally result in the player’s chosen male avatar being named james spader, and the female avatar being named gisele bundchen.
the level ‘lost fleet’ was intended to have an exclusive boss, namely a giant version of melora’s sea-venom in the form of a giant sea monster. it is generally assumed that this boss was scrapped in favour of smiley’s new boss, however there is a large amount of unused geometry for the creature as well as several mid-boss cut scenes with the boss. the monster is clearly much too large to fit in the confines of lost fleet, and it is unlikely that the creature would have to be cut-up into segments like in spyro 2’s volcano caverns. the reason this was cut from the final game is unknown.
activision added the option for the game to restore the current memory values on save. this allows the game’s memory values to be set to their values in the nes version of the game, including a few glitches that were fixed in dreamcast and gamecube releases.
in the main menu of lost forest, the growlblight forest has more detail on the ground than any other forest in the game. this added detail can be seen below and there is a non-static animator of a petal within this area. due to the fact that the area’s plants are growing at different speeds, the animator animates via a blocking technique; i.e. if it begins somewhere near the intended growing path, it will spend as much time as possible inside that growth channel.
