The Charlotte native finished fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series Gander Outdoors Truck Series race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, which was the final event of his career. Blaney started his race in the top 10 but fell out of the race before he could cross the finish line.
“Honestly, man, it’s something I’ve been carrying with me for the last seven or eight years,” Blaney said. “To be able to go out in the race car and do something that I’ve always dreamed of doing, it’s a dream come true. I don’t think that happens, you know, that much.”
Blaney had injuries in his past two racing seasons that prevented him from participating in any Cup races. He also withdrew from the season finale last year.
Blaney’s career in the Truck Series was also marred by injuries, but he still had hopes he could make it happen.
“If I don’t make it, I go home this weekend and I see [the Truck Series] race cars for the rest of my life,” Blaney said. “If I can make it there, if I’m going to go to Victory Lane one day, which is very possible, I’m going to go to Victory Lane driving a race car from the beginning. I’m going to be proud of it.”
Saturday was Blaney’s final Truck Series race, which began in a nondescript arena in Ontario and ended in a blue-collar neighborhood in Charlotte.
“So far in the Truck Series, my best finish was second, and we finished fifth here,” Blaney said. “You’re really just trying to go out and have fun.
“I’m going to miss the team, everybody that’s been a part of me making my dream come true. I can’t thank everybody enough for the support they’ve given me. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Blaney earned some nice feedback for his final Truck Series race.
