A couple of years after the incident of the Pharaoh’s defeat by Rannos, the Pharaoh-Oni Empire had almost recovered. A new Pharaoh, a strong and destructive one, was put to the throne. He was a cruel Pharaoh who ordered his army to hunt down God cards. He wanted to find and rule the other side of the Millennium Items, the Yugioh Underworld. This created monsters such as Anubis and Azazel, an addition to his army, that were just as dangerous as the Pharaoh-Oni Army. When Rannos had destroyed the cards, a new Pharaoh, “Haha” Ranmaru, was put to the throne. Ranmaru was known to be a ruthless and strict Pharaoh, but he had a major weakness: he had a heart condition, and he’s werewolf. He had to sleep for eight hours a day. Ranmaru wanted to rule over the earth, but before that he had to complete his Millennium Odyssey. A werewolf was no use to him. He ordered his army to destroy the legendary Pharaoh-Oni Sword, known as the “Red Rose” (the other two weapons, the “Blue Rose” and the “Green Rose”, were kept by each of the previous three Pharaohs). The Pharaoh-Oni Army destroyed the Red Rose, but before this happened, the God cards inside the Red Rose were separated. The God cards then ended up in different places: the God cards that lay on the Pharaoh-Oni’s deck were placed in a secret location by Ranmaru’s brother, Segata. The God cards that lay on the deck of the Pharaoh-Oni’s lieutenant were put in the care of the Pharaoh-Oni’s rebellious soldiers. But the God cards that lay in a secret compartment of the Pharaoh-Oni’s chest were with the Pharaoh-Oni’s card specialist, Anubis. Ranmaru’s army was destroyed in the fight that was created between the three parties. Finally, a last God card was laid down at a secret place. It was up to the Pharaoh-Oni’s king and player, Yugi Muto, to solve the Millennium Puzzle and find out who the player was. The movie has three different endings, all of which are the same as the manga’s ending: the Pharaoh-Oni Empire is completely wiped out, and Ranmaru was killed by the Pharaoh-Oni’s rebel soldiers at the end of the Millennium Odyssey. Yugi hands the cards over to an exhausted Rando, but before he can give them to him, a werewolf appears and attacks Rando, who dies in the hands of the werewolf. The other two endings are considered alternate versions of the first one. In the first one, after the Pharaoh-Oni Empire had been completely wiped out, Ranmaru is moved to a peaceable village. He is now able to have a normal life, and he also works as a teacher of Yugi Muto. In the second one, after the Pharaoh-Oni Empire had been completely wiped out, Ranmaru is killed by the rebel soldiers at the end of the Millennium Odyssey. In the third and final one, Ranmaru is now the king of a peaceful village. He is then captured by Anubis, who crushes Ranmaru’s heart, releasing his old strength. He then creates a Ranmaru clone who will be the new king. The movie was released on a VHS tape in Japan. The movie won a DVD release in Japan on October 26, 2000.
