A visit

On Friday, August 1, I took my dear friend, Bobbi, to Missouri, to see her son. We had always talked about taking a trip together – to visit. We had talked about going to Washington, DC, to see the monuments, the White House, and to shop at one of our favorite places to visit, Tysons Corner. But sometimes life gets in the way, and scheduling becomes a challenge, and travel plans have to be reworked.

When Bobbi was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the year, it was something that we had talked about doing. We had planned to make time, but those times never came to be. When Bobbi was first diagnosed, I didn’t know that she had met her second deadline for a mastectomy.

She had surgery in July.

And then we lost track of the time. Bobbi had to wait for chemotherapy.

She had a great summer. It was very hot and humid in Indiana, and once she started chemo, it was clear that the heat, humidity, and chemotherapy treatments were wreaking havoc on her system. The doctors were right. She had to wear an extra-large shirt to cover her chest, because she had a wonderful summer tan, and the extra skin would not expand into the shirt. She hated the extra weight, but she was pretty happy to get rid of the tan lines. By the end of July, Bobbi had to go back to school. She was doing fine, but those pesky chemo and radiation treatments would need to be completed by the end of August
