The Reproducibility Project – a Network for Open Reproducibility in the biological and biomedical sciences – has recently reported on the use of an open-source tool to track information for individual papers. The tool, a web-based tool called f1000research , was used to record and track citations for a detailed analysis of reproducibility in biomedicine. The f1000research database has more than 150,000 articles in its database. The detailed citation records in the f1000research database were then extracted, and the data analyzed to determine which articles have had many citations, as well as the citations those articles have received. Data mining techniques were used to determine which articles are most often cited. The results of this analysis show that articles published in high impact journals tend to have more citations. The results also show that articles published in high impact journals are more likely to be cited more often than those published in low impact journals, even controlling for citation rates. These results also show that for many types of papers, having a co-author with a prestigious institution tends to be associated with a higher citation count. This is one of the first studies to examine citation practices in biomedicine. It is an important step towards identifying features of the research and publishing process that can lead to improved reproducibility.

The use of health-related quality of life (HRQL) measures to evaluate new treatments is becoming more common in research. This paper provides information on two generic measures: the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) and the EQ-5D-5L. The PROMIS measures cover both physical and emotional domains of health and focus on health changes at the group level; it offers shorter versions with fewer items.
