FastLink monitors the system for any.lnk files or system paths that are set in the PATH variable, whether by manually or automatically, when it finds one it considers it obsolete and removes it.
A Windows.lnk file is simply a symbolic link or shortcut that is used to quickly access common folders and programs. They are similar to Mac OS X.dmg files, and sometimes Microsoft Windows.bundle files. While Windows itself manages them, like all Unix-like operating systems do, they are in fact not managed by the OS themselves, but by third-party applications such as GNOME Nautilus, a Shared Storage Facility (SSHFS) or Mac Finder.
But in some cases, these applications do not manage.lnk files correctly, and Windows treats them like native links. For example, Nautilus mounts volume links and shortcuts as soft links, this makes them appear as a long string of text.
However, when Windows finds these.lnk files, it treats them as if they were a shortcut, which makes them inaccessible.
Usually, programmers create.lnk links to shortcuts and this solves the problem. But there are cases when this solution is not applicable, like the case of Nautilus mounting volume links or shortcuts.
FastLink solves this problem, allowing you to easily manage .lnk files by automatically adding them to PATH when needed. It can even add a shortcut to the Windows Start menu.
