How to create a hierarchical parameterized query in R

I have a data frame called df, where there are 2 columns, v1 and v2. I want to create a query that returns a single row where the value of v1 and v2 can be either identical or different (but never null).
I have been looking at sqldf but I’m not sure how to generalize the following call to incorporate the parameterized nature of my query.
library(sqldf)

df %
select(v1, v2,
when(v1 == v2, “same”, “different”)
) %>%
do(sqldf(c(“SELECT * FROM”,
” (SELECT * FROM df WHERE”,
” v1 = (SELECT COALESCE(v1, v2) FROM df)”)))
)

You could generalize it to multiple columns as well.
