First, your Mac does come with Snow Leopard, which means it’s only running Mac OS X version 10.6.8. Snow Leopard is more than five years old, and if you’re on operating system 10.7 or newer, you’re going to be in for a world of fun with Apple’s new operating system, OS X El Capitan. But, if you’re running Snow Leopard, you might want to save some money if you don’t have a recent Mac and upgrade to OS X El Capitan. Given the popularity of Macs, this is likely to be something you’ll want to do.

Update management worked pretty well, although I did encounter some problems. Lightroom’s update check will uncheck itself if you do an update; you must tell it to check again if you want to complete the update itself. I didn’t have any problems with it going off-line in the middle of an upgrade, but I heard about people having that problem. Dropbox seems to be still the recommended method, and it’s still the best in most ways. One advantage of Dropbox is that you can configure Lightroom to only download updates on weekends. This can assist you if you like to leave Lightroom to work on photos on its own and somehow forget to set the update schedule to weekends, for example. A question I never heard from anyone before upgrading to Lightroom 5 was: how long will Designer’s Library updates take?
More importantly, Lightroom 5 has improved since last year, and I’ve been quite happy with it now. Lightroom is an increasingly versatile tool. I can begin to learn to like it, which I never thought I’d be able to do.

Gamma Adjustment Settings helps to give a much-needed flat, or “right” impression. Take a look at the image below. The image’s colors are too warm, and there’s not enough contrast.
