Disco Elysium is a challenging Action-RPG set in a cyberpunk version of 2054.

Sea Power is the composer of the videogame Disco Elysium, available for iOS and Android. It’s a first-person melodic adventure game which combines stories, art and music. The music is composed by Sea Power and based on a vision of a dream of a dream of an old man. The game’s protagonist Nico emerges from a coma after a suspicious accident. He finds himself in a place called “Disco Elysium”, where the city is composed of improbable combinations of everyday objects that suddenly come to life and do their jobs. It’s up to Nico, an ordinary man, to solve the bizarre cases and keep the city alive.

Interplay teased their recent release Disco Elysium recently that would be out relatively soon but the game’s soundtrack would be released very far in advance. They teased one track by one of the composers Ivan Zvonarev. The release marks his long-awaited return to music composing after his self-imposed break back in 2009.

Right now, you can get your hands on the style guide booklet that also features a few additional works by the composer in addition to some unused tracks from the game.

The Disco Elysium game itself is well worth playing for the gorgeous visuals. It has a very interesting visual style reminiscent of the old Gold S01 Paradox games. You are walking around a mess of your own brain that is trying to readjust to normalcy. You go the Facebook. You eat the Facebook.

Try and solve some extremely confusing puzzles. I’d recommend the difficulty setting be set to At this point of time, I’ve run the entire thing through one playthrough and am also thinking about further more.

I’ll probably go back to it a second and third time. During my playthrough, I had a friend play through it as well and we played through it together. We faced some particularly mind-bending puzzles and didn’t really know what had to be done for a solution.

We also were quite distressed by some of the events that play out during the game. We encountered a lot of tragedy and those events took a real toll on both of us personally. We do recommend this game for people who are mentally stable but be aware of what they are getting into.

You should be prepared for some hard mental game but I do think it will entertain and have some lasting rewards. I really liked it overall. The music is great and it captures the type of game it tries to be.

You can definitely see them doing some Universalis style stuff in the music as well. If you’ve ever played a Gold S01 Paradox game, some of the compositions sound similar.

I’m curious to hear if anyone played through it multiple times and what they thought. At least today, I know there’s at least one or two track in there that have really cool bits of instruments but they aren’t entirely complete. For example, one of the tracks is essentially a string track for several notes that plays throughout. It’s great to listen to but I can’t help but wonder about the overall completion of a full piece.
