Synthesizes MIDI messages as specified by MIDI Note Off, Note On, Polyphonic Key Pressure, Control Change, Program Change, Channel Aftertouch or Pitch Bend messages, or RPN or NRPN message sequences, or replaces them with other MIDI messages.
The Input messages specified here are generated by instruments via MIDI Out messages.
RPN/NRPN Output Mapping:
RPN – Names of all tracks are determined by text rules. If none are specified, the track names are derived from the track’s name.
NRPN – Tracks are given names according to rule. If no rule is specified, the track names are derived from the track’s name.
Inputs:
MIDI In – MIDI messages to be processed.
Rule Source – Text Entry or File
File – Name of text file containing rules
Rule 1 – Rule 10 – Text rules that specify selection criteria for messages, and the changes to be applied.
Outputs:
MIDI Out – MIDI messages resulting from application of the rules to the input messages.
NOTE: If there are no rules to apply, inputs are copied to outputs.
Examples:
Change a midi note on message to a midi note off message.

The DH_MIDIMunger is a special SynthEdit module. It changes MIDI messages on the fly. Any Note Off, Note On, Polyphonic Key Pressure, Control Change, Program Change, Channel Aftertouch or Pitch Bend message, or RPN or NRPN message sequence, can be changed to any other, making substitutions as specified in a set of rules.
Inputs:
MIDI In – MIDI messages to be processed.
Rule Source – Text Entry or File

Rule 1 – Rule 10 – Text rules that specify selection criteria for messages, and the changes to be applied.
Outputs:
MIDI Out – MIDI messages resulting from application of the rules to the input messages.
Note that if you use the NuGet Package “SynthEdit”, you will have full support for both the above modules. However, it is recommended to use the NuGet Package “SynthEdit-Editor” if you want to enable the DH_MIDIMunger. You can do so from the SynthEdit Options dialog. I use the “SynthEdit-Editor” package in my own programs and the functionality has been very useful in achieving the desired results.
If there are no message changes after applying a rule, the original message is returned. However, you may select messages with the same or similar MIDI numbers, and change all of them to another format or change them in any other way.
While the rules can be put in any order, for convenience they are usually written in ascending numerical order. The first rule in the list is the one that controls the first message to be replaced. The rest of the rules further down the list control the other message. So, the first rule can control both of the first two messages in the list, etc.
The value which controls the length of time between successive messages is the number in milliseconds, with 1000 milliseconds corresponding to one MIDI tick. If you increase the interval value, then you will get more messages from an instrument, but only for a short period of time. If the value is set to zero, then there is no time limit between messages.
The number of MIDI messages which are to be processed by the rules and the order in which they are to be selected and changed is specified by the Rule 1 – Rule 10 entries. For example, you may specify that the first four in the list of MIDI messages are to be changed, and the next

Note Off – Filter based on note off of the selected MIDI note
Note On – Filter based on note on of the selected MIDI note
Poly Off – Filter based on polyphony of the selected MIDI note
Poly On – Filter based on polyphony of the selected MIDI note
Note Off pitch – Filter based on pitch of the selected MIDI note, all notes must be the same within a MIDI stream.
Note Off velocity – Filter based on velocity of the selected MIDI note, all notes must be the same within a MIDI stream.
Poly Off velocity – Filter based on velocity of the selected MIDI note, all notes must be the same within a MIDI stream.
Poly On velocity – Filter based on velocity of the selected MIDI note, all notes must be the same within a MIDI stream.
