How to add background or text color to a canvas that is dynamically created?

I have a bit of code where the user types in a coordinate and then a canvas is created with that coordinate. Now I want to get the canvas to have some color background and then text on top of it. I’ve tried to see if I can apply the background color after the canvas is created but it doesn’t seem to apply.
