Nova Scotia to assess communities to see if pot dispensaries are needed
The Nova Scotia government says it’s assessing communities to see if medicinal marijuana dispensaries are needed, and if so what kinds of dispensaries would be best.
Citing a month-long public consultation that concluded on Dec. 2, Health Minister Randy Delorey says the province is watching where cannabis is being used and whether dispensaries should be required.
“Since we can’t predict where cannabis might be used in the future, we are looking for safety standards to ensure that all use of cannabis is done responsibly,” Delorey wrote in a Dec. 3 release.
“This public consultation will help us to determine where there may be a need for additional facilities. We recognize the important role these facilities play in the responsible use of cannabis.”
The consultation was launched last fall after the federal government proposed creating new regulations allowing for the sale of non-medical cannabis, which contains THC — the chemical that gets people high.
In November, the provincial government said they would hold a vote on whether to allow private retailers to sell non-medical cannabis once Ottawa begins accepting the ballot question next spring.
Pot would still be prohibited in areas under provincial jurisdiction, including schools and places of employment.
These places were later clarified to include parks, government-run daycares and licensed child care centres.
Delorey said these places and cannabis-related businesses are already subject to safety regulations, so adding dispensaries would be a duplication.
“The risks of cannabis misuse are well known and there are good ways to store the drug so as to protect community interests,” he said in a statement.
“We will be making recommendations to the federal government on how to safely legalize cannabis and ensure it’s not abused, used in unsafe ways, or trafficked in a manner that harms people.”
Earlier this year, Justice Minister Mark Furey said the province has no plans to open cannabis retail stores or grow facilities.

I have been using Lightroom 4.3 to import Photoshop PSD files that I have set up for the last one year. One of the most recent features added in the 5.0 update of Photoshop is the ‘Eliminate White pixels’ command. It’s not the only elimination adjustment available, but it’s one of the lesser-used ones. I also have a question: How do you deal with massive amounts of photos? Do you have a smart folder with a rule like “leave them in the folder from yesterday” or do you set it to auto-create a new folder every day?

Have always downloaded your posts to my hard drive and opened them on my PC. But you have me looking for a new place for them!… just not all that far away! So I have begun to adapt, and plan to download to my external drive for convenience. (It’s a mixture of the two. I’ve been using Lightroom professionally for over five years. Even then, it still feels a bit behind the curve: initially it didn’t support emails and scanners, and it didn’t have a “smart” asset management system such as Resolve or Laboratoire. But now it more than makes up for all of that by being extremely reliable, stable and feature-rich. Some may argue that it’s better to have a stable, but feature-light app, and that may be true. But Lightroom 5 is mature enough to be able to iron out all the rough edges. While changing things over and new features being added to Lightroom may not be the best solution, I hope Adobe makes the changes necessary.
Let’s start with the basics: Lightroom is easy to use and, as mentioned, very stable. Depending on your workflow, it’s fairly suitable to use also for image-based projects, if you don’t want to spend too much time in Photoshop. The new Darkroom panel should be a great tool for someone who frequently deals with black and white images. Unlike the basic tools in Lightroom, the Darkroom tools lack some editing features and apply some conversion presets by default.
The best thing about Lightroom is that it’s an open workflow. Almost everything can be replaced, extended, customized, etc. While you can’t go rummaging through an image’s metadata, you can, however, add keywords, batch tag images at once, and perform searches to find a specific piece of data.

The new Photo Downloader app launches in the Photo Browser, letting you instantly browse and download your favorite photos. Document Preservation is a new feature that lets you securely save your documents in your Dropbox, ensuring that you can always find them. Files are not sent to your Dropbox, and no personal information about the user or their Dropbox folder is stored.
Clone Layers is a useful new feature that lets you reposition, size, and add effects to a group of selected layers. Using this feature, you can edit the same layers in an image at the same time. To clone layers, select one layer in an image and choose Clone Layers. It’s a good way to isolate and save time editing only one small part of an image.
Theoretically, Photoshop CC could be the best option for beginners and also for users who want to try out upon some new creative innovations. The CC version includes numerous new features, and you can choose any of the core editions to create an unlimited number of projects with its powerful tools and features.
