Typically, to merge layers, you need to use the Refine Edge or Quick Selection tool. Once the desired layer is selected, you need to use the Control + J keyboard shortcut or click on the pathfinder icon in the Layers palette in order to select the layer. Nice review but after upgrading to LR5.2 RC I think performance is better than with LR4. Working on a project with 1500 D800 NEFs my impression is that the smart previews increase speed while working in the Developer mode – in Lib. mode however everything slows because the JPEG previews are used. So far I am not sure how the Jpegs are used as previews when you have the smart previews (DNGs) available. But have to say that I am happy with 5.2 RC although I will say bye-bye to LR the day they make it part of CC. Regards! Sren

There’s also support for the next generation of higher-resolution displays. A new feature called Memory Preview is a camera-like preview mode that increases resolution by using desktop memory as a canvas. By default, Memory Preview is activated when you import Photoshop files from SD cards. It can also be activated numerically (0, 5MB, 10MB, etc.). The resolution increases based on memory available on your computer. Photoshop is the first software to jump from SD cards to RAM. Memory Preview starts with a default resolution of 2,048×1,536 pixels, and you can edit the file and return it to the original resolution by pressing a shortcut key.

The creative suite has been updated two times with different features in all different areas and functionality. It includes Photoshop Fix tools for beginners. In 2017, Photoshop Fix was a replacement for not just a stand-alone application but it also became a part of the membership, and most of the features were then removed from Photoshop Fix in mid-2019. Although Photoshop Fix was later rebranded Photo Fix in October 2019, it does not have all the features and functions of Photoshop Fix. Although we will not update the original review on the removal of these tools, we will update the review on Photo Fix since its release in October.

The folks at Nik Software has been testing out their new plugin, Nik HDR Efex Pro, since February. Until it was released a bit more recently, it wasn’t even available pre-release. Versions of the plugin will come available for free to members of the Nik User Group. What’s more, the Nik User Group members will get first dibs on buying the plugin when available as a stand-alone product. This offers some very interesting possibilities for the future of HDR photography.

With the release of Photoshop CS5, Adobe Photoshop has gotten a major overhaul. The new features in Photoshop CS5 help improve the quality of your work, but many are not easily accessible. Ease-of-use is a little different for the latest version of Adobe Photoshop. Though the interface has been streamlined slightly, the user has more tasks to perform. The new version makes it easier to perform certain tasks, such as aligning layers, edit the image, crop an image and bulk adjust shape fills. However, other features, such as the Crop Tool, the Healing Brush, and the Spot Healing Brush, are also more accessible.
I’m more than 30 years old, and I’ve had my share of heavy use of Photoshop for years. The last time I added Photoshop to my workflow was to replace the tried-and-true Photoshop Elements 8 (which I included in my workflow for roughly a year before replacing with Lightroom 3). I was able to survive the learning curve required for the full Photoshop workflow, and I ended up switching to Lightroom. I found that the features and speed of Lightroom made working with photos, especially when compared to working with negatives, easier, faster, and more convenient. This experience with Lightroom has led me to a program that’s used far more often than my typical Adobe Creative Suite software, and that’s the main reason I’m writing this article.
There are so many programs available for editing. For my personal work, I tend to use Lightroom CC as it is perfect for what I do. It allows you to store everything from RAWs to prints in one place. You can also use it as a nice photo editor.
What It Does: Use the Clone Stamp tool to remove objects from an image, while you keep portions of the surrounding area selected. The Cloning Stamp tool uses a simple grid overlay to guide you, and you can quickly clone over objects for smoother editing.
What It Does: The new crop tool features an easy selection that lets you accurately frame any image. With the New Crop tool, you can quickly adjust the proportions of an image without warping the image. Use the image views to zoom in any proportion, from 40-percent to 400-percent.
In the aesthetic realm, Adobe has increased the total number of brush strokes from the previous version of Photoshop. Of course that’s taken place with the launch of new technology and the improvement of the paint brush to create more detailed and refined results to match the resolution of displayed images. The number of possible actions for the brush tool has also increased. You can enhance the images in various ways, such as adding layers, filling an area strategically with new color, removing unwanted details (like wings, clothing, etc.) or blotters, subduing the contrast of the images, and so forth.
At last, we will introduce how to use the Microsoft Office Online components with Adobe Photoshop. First, you can complete the screenshots to upload into Microsoft Office Online, and then we can browse the site and jointly edit the two screens. Canvas layers are one of the most important features in the whole series, promising ease of use and flexibility. Unlike in Elements, only a very few layers are available, but you can create new ones and you have full control over how, when and what is visible when working on them. You can choose the image or canvas size, rotate, zoom, align and place objects, and make changes to the filter, brightness and contrast. You can even create and name layers and you can work on several layers at once. To name a layer, click Image >>> Layer >> New and enter your name. You can also create a new image by pressing File > New. You can choose the image size, rotate and zoom the image to fit the canvas, align the image by pressing Image >>> Align >> Align by Aspect, and you can crop if needed. The work-overlay is a neat panel where you can see every change you make to an image. You can go back and forth between them and they are also the only thing you can see when working with layers. When in action, you can zoom and pan the canvas. But the canvas only shows small areas of the image.
Adobe Photoshop can be downloaded and installed on a computer. If you need to work on several files, it has the concept of the “Secondary” tool. If you install an Adobe Photoshop file on your “Secondary” tool, the first Photoshop file will be closed down.

OpenCL is a computer system technology that allows you to offload certain tasks from the GPU to the CPU, thereby saving time and energy. Generally, OpenCL accelerates and increases the performance of mathematical functions that are otherwise too long or inefficient for the GPU to perform. OpenCL also works on Altivec and MMX operations, which means that you’ll be able to use these operations with just about all sorts of data, such as processed images, 3D content, and CAD data.

It is still like the computer world. This is why you still see a lot of older software and not a lot of new software. The features and the idea is still the same.
The Photoshop editing process is a multi stage design process. It consists of editing, masking, change, and healing. Masking is the initial step of editing where you use drawing tools, the Layer Mask and clipping path to isolate and mask areas.
The new features and tools offered with Adobe Photoshop CC 2017:
New native layers: Switch to a true Node-based structure for deep editing and compositing.
Support for node-based cloning: Only one layer can be cloned at a time, so you select the clone layer, select Copy Layer, select the node to use as the clone and then click “Clone layer.” The new layer type is ideal when editing multiple small or multiple layers at once and moves fast and smoothly.
Brush tool improvements: New tools that enable you to edit pixels using brushes to create sophisticated gradients, polygonal and freeform shapes, and hatch patterns, as well as control the flow of paint from one brush to another Brush growth, new features like Groups and Layer Styles Porpose, and watercolor starters have also been added to the Edit Panel.
Presets panel: The Settings panel now gives presets actual names, making it easier to find presets using tags, while new tags let you group a set of presets together for easy creation.
Navigation panel: Easily view the tools and keyboard shortcuts available, and include both the keyboard and trackpad navigation
Refine Edge tool: Easily smooth and round edges, including rounded rectangles, ellipses, and polygons, using a variety of options such as Threshold, “Control points” for removing sharp or rough corners, and “Smooth” which uses a sample of the pixels around the edge of the anchor point to smooth the edge.
Markup panel: Easily create your own layer styles, add brush presets, and add your own brush and path styles.
Transfer panel: Transfer layers via drag and drop, including copy, paste, flatten, scale, and rotate.
Camera Raw panel: Easily adjust color, exposure, and other settings.
Merged layers: Makes it easy to merge multiple layers into one, set angles, scale, and rotate.
Layer and content-aware fill: Fill images with color, without getting black edges around them.
Workflow panel: Automatically organize your work image by location and file, easily adjust and sort layers, and organize the layers and media which you are using. It also has common shortcuts, save and print.
Of course, you can also do all this using Photoshop’s Layers palette, but the Layers dialog also lets you see a visual representation of all images and layers in your file. With all your images and groups of images now in layers, you’re now able to organize and rearrange them just as you would with any layer. To do this, double-click on a layer and you can change the order and position of all the layers in your image.
You can also use the Layers panel and create duplicate layers. By sorting them, you can make different looks or changes. Even better, you can select all layers and make changes to them all at once. To do this, click on the effects icon in the Layers panel and choose Merge Layers. As you can see, layers are merged together. You can also now make new groups of layers with more than one file in them and rearrange them in the order you like.
You can easily save two or more image files at once. To do this, click on the Arrange button in the Layers panel, then choose Send to Back. Then click on the down-arrow next to Duplicate Layer to open the Duplicate dialog box.
From the Duplicate dialog box, choose Preview and you’ll be able to see the difference in the two files. Then, simply press Enter to select which file is going to be the active file. You can now save this file and name it whatever you want.
Among the new updates is Share for Review, a new way to work in Photoshop and across the Web. Share for Review provides visual collaboration and feedback, enabling users to quickly and easily review and test various aspects of a shared design or illustration. Because PSD files live inside a web browser, sharing can happen without having to use complex FTP or SFTP file transfer mechanisms. This new feature enables designers to work in real-time on shared files across the Web, and brings Photoshop tools directly to the browser using the powerful Adobe Edge Animate toolset.
The new functionality of shapes is another unique feature of Adobe Photoshop. It is a free form shape tool that enables you to draw freeform shapes. You can make use of the pen tool to draw shapes and group them to make collections. You can also work with shape collections to build complex vector structures and design masterpieces.
Adobe Photoshop has not forgotten the beginners. The very important feature of images is the ability to undo to remove undesired editing. Even if a beginner does an editing mistake, they can remove it using the Undo feature. It is very important that before you post anything online, you have a backup of your work.

All these new features have been rolled out in Photoshop 2020 CC. And ahead of that release, it is now possible to add unlimited filter styles to your brush panel in Photoshop. You can use just one brush to create many kinds of brush styles. You can also adapt your brush to a specified size, control the softness, control the hardness. Now, Adobe has introduced a new high-performance brush engine so you can do a lot of brush stroke editing before you get to the display screen. You can also save Photoshop brushes in an XML file and learn more about them using Adobe Photoshop XML (PSDML).
The Photoshop CC 2020 release will be available for Mac, Windows and Linux. It is the perfect preparation for the release of the new Adobe Photoshop CC 2021, and what we’re really excited about in the near future, is the launch of the “coming soon” Adobe Photoshop CC 2020 and beyond expansion plan. This next season is likely to spark some amazing existing features like the Siri-like AI features of Adobe Sensei features for new workflows like advancements in the layout and design capabilities for filmmakers, and the new features for creatives in motion graphics, animation, video and other areas.
