After you launch Photoshop Camera on your mobile device and in the browser, you can begin exploring single-click HDR images from cameras, layers, adjustment, and more.

Where to Find It: The tools are located on the Image Menu above the workspace. Hover over a tool to see precisely what it does and find it in the lower left corner of your image. Similar or nearly identical tools are located under the Image > Adjustment > Crop tool.

How to Use It: Choose the tool of your choice above the workspace and then click on the tool, or hold the mouse button over the main tool to display a small square with the tool’s name. You can then select the tool to interact with your image, and drag the tool to tweak your image, as shown in the above video (click left or move the mouse to position the video). To exit the tool, click anywhere outside of the tool. You can also press Esc to exit the tool.

Gaussian Blur now also provides greater control to adjust the blur and make it more nuanced (similar to Adobe’s beauty functions). And with a new feature in the Layer Blur options, you can use the filter to use the same settings within most of your layers. This is particularly useful for text layers in your image. For desktop use, you can apply Gaussian Blur to a video layer to make your fade transitions look natural. And Blur Gallery can also now overlay a range of RGB modes and HSV modes (the new Color Wheel) on top of the filter drop down menu.

On the subject of adjustments, the Auto Sharpen feature in Photoshop now includes a new “Sharpen Selections” tool that can be applied to gradients or any selected adjustment layers. The Gaussian Blur now has a new “Unsharp Mask” feature that allows you use the same controls that you do with the old version. Also new to Shadows & Highlights is a new tab (Contrast ) for luminance adjustments.

Vibrance has a new Color edition tool and the Smooth Color Saturation adjustment. The Color & Exposure adjustment is now included in the Shadows & Highlights tab. There are also new Colors, Brushes, and Texture adjustment layers. There’s also a new Dodge & Burn adjustment.

Photoshop Elements will likely launch 2012 with the same prior features but expect new features in Elements 9 that will likely be released this year. We will refresh this page as new features have been released.

Adobe’s Photoshop is without a doubt the industry standard. Not only do they work with the best of the best in the industry but they also benchmark all of their products to the point of being industry leaders in the graphics and editing world. The CS suite is filled with incredible features that have been around for many years but are still highly sought after by millions of users all over the world.

The full range of effects used to create high-quality photo manipulations and works of art are extremely complex and require time to master. However, the most important asset tools, such as the Auto-Ligature option and the Free Transform tool can be mastered with time. Adobe provides great tutorials and tips to get started. The pros always give the same key advice, start out simple, but don’t limit yourself to one image editing tool.

The Photoshop Creative Suite was released in October of the following year, and this was the very first suite. It was a mix of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Adobe released three editions of the suite: 1) CS (Version 1). 2) CS2, which (Version 2). 3) CS3, which was the final version. So, for those who remember CS2 is how software development was. This bump around was the result of their clients demanding Adobe to upgrade the imaging tools constantly, as well as the demands of increased competition from newer image editing software. Photoshop did not replace Photoshop 5, but added new features that were popular at the time. Photoshop CS2 is also the first version of Photoshop where you can open documents, save documents and save files directly to a CD or DVD. These were significant changes that had to be made because of the different file types that were being utilized.

The second part of the course looks at Photoshop’s basic editing operations. The course spends time familiarizing you with the new pixel-based editing tools, so you can understand how they work and how they behave.

So, in this respect, Admittedly Advanced is not a Photoshop review, but a course that introduces the Photoshop user to new concepts within the program, and introduces them in a way that will start to make sense as the course progresses. The basics remain the same. In Elements, one set of tools works with your photos and the other works with your artwork. Either way, you’ll see the same results as with the full-featured Photoshop. The difference is that you can work in a completely non-destructive manner, which allows you to trade changes back and forth without worrying about losing any of your original content.

Photoshop is an incredibly powerful genome editor. After you open an image in the program and go to the Edit menu, select Canvas Size/Reset Size. The interface opens to a new canvas size. This new canvas is ready for you to do your editing, as if you first opened the image and had all the canvas’s general settings in place. Once you’ve made your edits, switch back to the original setting, in this case the original canvas size. There, in the menu, select New to open a new image. Double-click the new canvas to set a new size.

Those of you with subscription access to Photoshop Creative Cloud may know that you get the 3D feature set for free. However, it is not a complete set of tools, and some selection and interoperability with other apps is lacking.

Blender has a feature called Cycles, which is a reasonably complete 3D renderer that is compatible with the Blender Render. Blender operates using Python, so it is an easy language to program in and there are lots of online tutorials for Python. But to use it as an integrated part of the Blender OS X application would take time. With this in mind, I decided to try to (in the words of David Bowie) Make the impossible possible, *make 3D work in Photoshop.*

I’m using a couple of applications to make this and subsequent posts possible. In the previous post I showed a couple of start-to-finish experimental 3D projects made quickly using just Cinema 4D Lite, and now Photoshop. In this post I’ll use 3D Studio Max to create the 3D objects, and then use Photoshop to finish the rendering.

You might notice that the workspace is much more than just a 3D rendering in Photoshop – it’s the whole workflow. Just as you’d expect from any professional “paint” application, you start with a 3D scene in Max and then model it to look just the way you want. After that you import the 3D model into a Photoshop file, and it will render the scene. In later posts I’ll draw on top of the 3D models and animate the final render, but in this post I’ll use simple matte and lighting techniques to tease out those 3D models.

Equipped with simple sliders, you can make magic happen such as changing your subject’s expression, age, gaze or pose in the time it takes you to say “AI technology”. To access Neural Filters head to Photoshop, and choose Filters > Neural Filters.

More enhancements include the ability to copy the format of your files for export, the ability to rotate an image horizontally or vertically, and the ability to change the order and save a document.

This new interface has many new features, including a new Sharing panel to share social media posts, and a feature where you can enable Elements like effects and filters in Photoshop. The new panel includes icons for Popular and Smart Filters as well, and an icon for features like Shadows & Highlights and Color Strokes. Finally, there’s a new Gallery panel with new brushes and textures as well as easy access to the Creative Cloud Libraries.

Adobe’s new AI technology, called Sensei, is the game-changing technology that provides a framework for a new generation of tools, and offers more innovative features than many people can imagine. A critical feature is the ability to easily create your own artwork with a new feature called “Content-Aware Fill” and just invoke the feature in the current version of Photoshop Open Studio. Other advancements include a new Smart Objects feature that allows you to quickly reseal layers of an image, and the ability to create your own word clouds from the File Tab’s Find In Page feature.

Cracking Adobe Photoshop is not as straightforward as installing it. It requires a few steps to bypass the security measures that are in place. I won’t hold a review of Lightroom 5 against the other Lightroom users out there and say that it is the best. You can purchase Lightroom 5 and do your own evaluations, but I will discuss the new features on offer and go into the functionalities and workflow as I see it.

Although it has its own new features, Lightroom 5 still takes advantage of its Touch and Mac versions of Photoshop. For example, you can do all your editing, including basic adjustments such as levels, curves, and color correction, in Photoshop and then sync your changes back to Lightroom. It’s this syncing that is really important to your workflow. It’s one of the first things you want to do when you first open your photo library project. In my own case, I think I’m still very much in the habit of working between the two products.

Lightroom 5 is a free download from Adobe Labs, and you can get it for Windows (32 and 64-bit versions) and Mac OS 10.10, and Photoshop CS6 (Windows only) is included in the download, so this is a Lightroom 5 that you can try as long as your version of Photoshop is compatible with CS6.

Many of the new features are not so intelligent though. I feel not only that Adobe still has a lot of work to do in the image processing area, but also that it needs to improve its time-to-deal with, at least to reach the level of features it offers to its Lightroom users.

In the same vein as I was talking about the benefits of cloud in using Photoshop, I feel that its Fast Web Viewer is also a powerful tool for remote work. You might have noticed a couple of crashes while trying to use the fact that you can share an imported image from Lightroom in the Fractal Design Casablanca. That is because of a recent update to Virtualbox, which caused a conflicts with a Virtual Box Extension in Fractal Design Casablanca. It can also be sometimes difficult to scroll up or down, especially in the Organizer when you have thousands of images mixed in with dozens of folders. Clearly, Fixing these minor issues shouldn’t be that difficult. Admittedly the Organizer is one of the best Mac apps in the App Store right now, but it would be a good thing to see a better display of exported images. Another big problem that I noticed is that the Lost and Found feature is really poor. Actually, other than the fixes described above, I do not see a lot of bugs in the software. The image adjustment layers do not work properly with the latest system update—what feels like a bad error that needs to be addressed.

After trying out the Photoshop Creative Cloud for the last couple of weeks, I would be very tempted to recommend it to even those who do not use Adobe’s traditional products. If the standalone version of Photoshop does not have what you’re looking for, check it out. Is the upgrade from the previous version (8.0) worth it? The answer depends on your workflow and the extent of your investment in the software. I suggest trying Photoshop CC for the first time with a new image and working with Adobe’s “starter edition” plan, which costs only $9.99 per month, although you can upgrade to any other plan at any time. Even if $9.99 is a steep price for you, it can be nothing when compared to the amount of time you can save by not needing to download individual files every time you work on a new image. Of course, this investment in time savings is just one good thing to consider when upgrading. Another advantage is the much-improved performance. If you were slow to move between images, or if the software decided to stop responding every other week, it’s no longer on deck. Folks who use a lot of filters or have very large images will also see an improvement. If you are one of those users, you know you will no longer need to start Photoshop with a dark background or really high resolution to get things working. The kind of tweaks mentioned above can really improve performance. You also get access to some important ones, like nondestructive adjustment layers and a library of photos synced to the cloud. The use of vector tools and mobile versions of Adobe’s other products like Illustrator, the cloud-synced Adobe Camera Raw, and InDesign are also a big plus. However, I do not think those are the reasons to pay for Creative Cloud—the reason is the ability to work safely from whatever device you have at hand. I know I’m glad it’s there.

Now some have complained about the performance and other issues. And I should point out the software is still stuggling in the new release. So far in my workflow I haven’t noticed any lag in new features or issues. The soft-touch brush tool is still not stuggling once used. The only time I’ve noticed a problem is when I was using it overtime I notice that the tool appear to draw the image but it was going back and forth between the two uses. The only thing I’ve seem about the other feature that just appeared was it couldn’t draw a double outline. I’m hoping that it gets fixed soon. But otherwise, it’s great software.
