you will notice that there are no drones in the instrument. i have been asked many times what the drones are in the instrument. so to help explain the drone, i have written a short article. drones are very important, and i have written a lot about them. in a nutshell, drones are what you use to make the melody stand out. think about it – it’s like adding a voice, but only one. the drones carry the melody, and give it some extra power. you could never have a melody without drones, and you cant have drones without melody, but the two need to work together. i’m a huge fan of the fiddle drone, but for bagpipes, i prefer to use a whistle drone, and that’s because they sound a lot less “piped” when you play bagpipes. for example, a whistle drone would be very natural on a bagpipe, and would sound much better than a fiddle drone. i try and make my drones sound natural, and usually match the sound of the instrument, but you do need to experiment and see what works for you.
the samples are recorded at a very high quality, and are recorded in 24bit 44.1khz stereo, and has a very authentic sound. i thought it was important to make sure the sound was very full bodied so that you could really hear the pipes and fiddles. if you have a great stereo mix, you can put this on top of it and it’s great. you can also mix it in mono.
