The Asian armored scale, Aulonocara solidaginis (T.) is a pest of rice. The female-biased primary infestation of rice seeds by A.solidaginis can drastically reduce yield potential. The parasitoid wasps are then released on females in the lab and all captured females are maintained on host-specific diets. The wasps only oviposit on the females that show scale damage. As a result, the potential spread of A.solidaginis is reduced significantly. The location of release of the parasitoid wispers has been shown to be critical for the rate of parasitism of the scale. At night the parasitized scale is released to help the parasitoid wasps to locate and oviposit within the scale.”>
