Barcode Labels Scanner is a simple software application capable of reading barcodes and revealing their numerical representation. It offers support for several barcode types and contains a small set of options.
Portable tool with a simple GUI
It's wrapped in a portable package that you can save anywhere on the hard drive or a removable storage unit, in order to directly launch the app on any machine with minimum effort and no previous installer.
It doesn't change Windows registry settings or create extra files on the disk, leaving no traces behind after its removal. As far as the interface goes, the program adopts the bare necessities, and this is clearly noticeable by taking one look at its window.
Supported image extensions and barcode types
It's possible to open images with the GIF, JPG, PNG, multi-page TIFF and BMP file types. The utility doesn't implement an option for showing pictures with all supported file types from a directory, and it doesn't remember the last choice.
When it comes to the barcode types, it can identify Codabar, Code 39, Code 39 Extension, Code 128, Data Matrix, EAN 8, EAN 13, Identcode, Interleaved 2 of 5, ISBN, ISSN, ITF-14, Leitcode, PDF417, QR Code, UPC-A, and UPC-E.
How it works
Unfortunately, Barcode Labels Scanner isn't designed to automatically identify the barcode type, and it doesn't give you the possibility to scroll through the options after loading the barcode image. Instead, you have to select the type first and the image second, which means that you must be able to recognize the barcode types.
Otherwise, it becomes a repetitive and time-consuming process of picking each type and loading a photo until a match is found. On top of that, it cannot find numerical barcodes for multiple images loaded at the same time. The displayed barcodes can be copied, though.
Conclusion
Barcode Labels Scanner seems like an unfinished project. It's not easy to use if you cannot tell apart barcode types when taking a look at images. Other than that, it's fast and gets the job done.

This application is free and without any restrictions, but you should bear in mind that it does not include a large set of barcode formats. For example, it cannot recognize UPC-A. Moreover, it’s not intended to decode barcodes for multiple images, since it can quickly become a time-consuming process. So, if you need to scan a lot of barcodes and save them to an image file, choose another program instead.
