As with the majority of reviews up until now, I was impressed with the camera’s JPEG performance. But to see a reviewer’s comment about trusting a review that favors the camera’s JPEG performance, that made me question just how trustworthy these reviews are. I’ve never loved that system, because it can never manage to be exactly “preferred” as the name implies. Photoshop Elements, for the most part, with its various question-questions-answers teeth-gnashers, leaves the metadata alone, which makes that feature much more of a possible benefit. Better than nothing, though. Users who want to “manually” adjust the metadata will still need to place their hands on the mouse. The new version also adds a feature that most would-be video editors would surely love: a short cut word or phrase within menus. That feature may be utilized by more serious Photoshop users who need to operate quickly. There is also the much-discussed new HDR program. In my view, it is overpriced (too expensive for what it does) — it’s true, though, it did boost my S-curves a bit, which is important to me. At the end of the day, I’d agree that the new Adobe Photoshop Elements is a bit more-user-friendly, but is it superior? Not yet, at least.

We don’t know at this point how Photoshop and its Substance siblings will work together. We can only hope that the 3D feature-set, and the more modern programming tools inspired by it, are not plunked in a cesspool of old cruft, leftover code, deprecated APIs, and all the other things that bogged down the product for users.

Brush and Gradient tools in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop have been refreshed with new tool behavior. In addition to more natural behavior when you’re using these tools, the new tools have been redesigned so that you see more of the image when you work with a fill or stroke.

The power and performance of Photoshop come from a combination of an industry leading UI framework, custom hardware accelerators, and memory management. By shipping a true graphics API, we’ve been able to parallelize many of the processing tasks in Photoshop’s core UI framework – such as filters, effects, and rendering – including all the image processing in Photoshop. This has also freed up memory by reducing the amount of shared memory allocated for layers and filters.

In fact, shared memory usage has been around 2GB in the past. This is great performance-wise, but it is not scalable for future needs. With the new GPU API that was announced today, we can now power Photoshop with GPU-based cores and make it faster than ever before. And we’re continuing to invest in making this API a first choice, by making it the default for future updates as they come out.

This new GPU API is just one example of the many areas where we are working to accelerate and optimize Photoshop. We’ve also extended our partnership with OpenCL and AI by complementing OpenCL with our native GPU APIs in both MacOS and Windows, and making it easier to use AI standards throughout. We are also working to experiment with both AI and OpenCL in the new iOS and macOS, and in future releases.

If users want to use advanced tools to make HDR images or sequence videos, as well as a range of other photo editing tasks, more powerful options are available to them with Photoshop. Photoshop isn’t just 16-bit imaging and pixel manipulation, however. In addition to advanced image production functionality, Photoshop includes a number of business and Design features, such as Composite images and places objects automatically and Adjust and Resize layers and keep their original proportions. Photoshop is also available as a subscription model, which makes the software available to users at an affordable price.

The free update option doesn’t require an account. Adobe provides updates to Photoshop for free, theoretically at anytime, without prompting you to upgrade. However, you’ll need to download any desired updates, then install them to a clean installation. For the best installation experience, we recommend creating a new clean installation.
