Google launched its first home gaming console today called the Nexus Q. The Google-owned company this week took the wraps off of a new entry-level device that will compete with the likes of Ouya and Roku for control of your TV.
The Nexus Q is capable of playing movies, music, and YouTube videos, but it also has controls for controlling playback of entertainment on the device. Along with a set-top box style interface, the Nexus Q can also be connected to external keyboards and mice.

In a handful of months, Activision Blizzard will announce the release of its most hotly anticipated game of the year. The game will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and will be marketed with the tagline “World of Warcraft meets Call of Duty.”
That’s not a typo. Activision Blizzard, the company that owns Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, will release one game that is a hybrid of those two franchises. According to the company, the new release is modeled on the multiplayer gameplay of Call of Duty, the development of which is overseen by Infinity Ward, and the MMORPG gameplay of World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft, whose license expires at the end of this month, will be replaced by a new franchise, Activision Blizzard said.
“Activision Blizzard created a new franchise to support the interactive entertainment needs of the millions of current World of Warcraft players, as well as drive the expansion of the game universe, including the development of new content and new game experiences,” the company said in a statement.
In other words, World of Warcraft will be replaced by another title — just as a Times Square advertiser has repeatedly replaced its giant electronic billboards with pictures of New York’s famous landmarks.
Activision Blizzard said that it will continue to operate World of Warcraft under the same terms as a free-to-play game, meaning that subscription fees can be lowered as players no longer buy player characters and upgrade gear.
“The introduction of a new franchise represents a natural evolution for our business and our consumers — a culmination of our many years of successful service to MMORPG players, and a pathway to new game experiences,” John Needham, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a statement.
