Preee V3.18 READ NFO-PARADOX

It is out of touch that “Before his death, F. used very impressive words to defend Isaacson’s accession thesis. (…) F. has this kind of “erudition”. He put it like this: “Faith does not’save us’, in the strict sense of theword, it ‘transforms us”‘. Of course, this statement is not wholly true. A personwho has the faith may be saved in the strict sense of the word (equipotenty). The key point here is that F. wants to focus our attention on the word’saving’ rather than on the word ‘faith’ (which is also exploited in the creation of the concept of “possibility of faith”). Actually, F. has the idea that God’s invisiblecooperation through spiritual participation gives us “permanent andeternal life” (for example in the capture of the caul): F.distinguishes this good from other goods which are also important to God (for example divine knowledge, divineglory, etc.) the good of divine knowledge is relevant only in the transitory sense, while the value of divine glory in the eternal sense. The value of God’sinvisible cooperation is permanent, whereas all the other goods aretransient and do not affect the nature of God. For example, the value of God’sknowledge is only transitory, it does not constitute any new substance. (…) F. therefore develops an approach which separates the man who protests in most of his book from those who do not protest. (…) F. addresses the formula that “faith saves”only to those believers who did not apparently have faith initially: they became believers after the evidence of a vision or after a miracle. (…) From F.’s viewpoint, therefore, we meet with those persons who did not believe initially and who only ‘arrive’ thereafter, because their faith is assent to the evidence offered to this effect. In this way, faith is also a spiritual assent, not only an attitude of the subject to the evidence, but also an action of the subject in the world. We can find in F.’s works some reflections of the very orthodox understanding of faith. (…) F. emphasizes that faith, which changes hearts, does not give life in the strict sense of the word. And it is indeed important for all the congregations to work hard to make the formation of faith a daily practice (…) F.
