way of the samurai 4 takes place in the humble port town of amihama during the mid 19th century, several years after the arrival of the black ships from the west ended japans long history of cultural isolation. amihamas downtown area has slowly been converted to a little britain, complete with european-styled buildings, occupied by an influx of adventurous foreign settlers. not everyone welcomes these new residents though, and three distinct factions with opposing ideals begin to take shape.
while the game will use the series’ default engine, an upgrade to the graphics engine will be possible. samurai warriors 4 will have a “true to life” weapons and artwork, as well as full voice acting. the game will include a new visual novel that lets players experience the history of the japan’s sengoku period through two perspectives – the samurai and the women of the period. samurai warriors 4 will feature new costumes, music, scenario, and character designs. a new scenario is planned for the game. a new setting will be used. the player can choose to battle in one of three different eras: the sengoku era, the holy war era, or a mythical era where the gods and the samurai meet. the ending for the sengoku musou series will be set in one of those three eras. players will be able to use their samurai to fight in the era chosen. a new battle mode called “bloody samurai” allows players to recreate major battles from the sengoku period. the game will have the new “bloody battle” feature, where battles take place with random rules. players can designate their own rules for gameplay. this will let players decide for themselves how battles turn out. players can choose the options for the battle and also choose the battlefield. they can choose to fight for their own faction, the opposing faction, or work with both. the game will have the option of creating one’s own custom scenarios.
the game will feature new combat moves, including a new “flying kick” called the ginneken. the samurai warriors series has been a huge success for koei tecmo and their parent company tecmo. the action rpg franchise has produced more than 19 million units worldwide. koei tecmo has released samurai warriors 4 in japan, north america, and europe. the game will be released in asian territories in january 2014.
