The monumental five-volume work published by Krishna Reddy in 2006 aims to cater to the needs of a new generation of students and scholars who are neither wedded to the unilineal history of their forebears, nor blinded by scientific modernism.

In this book, Krishna Reddy gives an in-depth study on history of South India, both in historical and cultural context. To this effect, he has spent a considerable amount of time in Karnataka and Kerala, as these regions represent the early history of the region.
