i could hear the brass instruments in the upper registers of my music, and it was easy to create a brassy feel with the high frequencies. in the recording of the ensemble, you can hear the brass instrumentation come in and then drop out, which makes it easy to place the brass in different contexts within the track. the instruments have a slightly bright sound and the high frequencies did not muddy the softer brass articulations. in solo work, these instruments sound great as a backdrop, but they can also be used to create a more brassy brass feel. i was able to place an original track with brass and i was happy with the effect.
the overall sound of the brass ensemble is warm, and the individual instruments sound great. the instruments did not feel muddy or thin, but were very bright, which allowed them to stand up to both high and low frequencies. i did not encounter any instrument clashes, but did find a few slight resonances. i could tell that some of the voices were slightly out of phase, which is something you often hear on a live recording. this was not the case in the recording. it may be an artifact of the recording process.
it is easy to work with the brass ensemble in the lower registers, and the articulations are very flexible. there are various levels of dryness, and the articulations can be modified to add dynamics. when adding reverb, i found that the falloff was pretty strong and i had to adjust my reverb settings to tame the effect. this is something that i did not find in any of the other brass ensembles i tested.
the trombone ensemble is very flexible, and can be used for brass ensemble writing, solo brass, or any other brass arrangement. the articulations are very dry, and the trombone ensemble sounds great, even in the low registers. the recording sounded good on my hi-fi system, and it sounded amazing on my computer speakers. i did not experience any clipping or resonances.
