With any partitioned hard drive, you can increase the speed at which data can be accessed. RAM Disk Plus allows you to create virtual RAM disks (vRAM disks) which act as hard disk, helping you to restore data in a relatively short period of time. The system can be booted directly from the RAM disk, saving time for the user.

If you use an encryption function when creating a vRAM disk, this version improves the speed at which the encrypted data is decompressed, allowing you to create encrypted RAM disks with uncompressed files faster than with previous versions.

Continue to the last set of options. This setting allows you to specify a password for the RAM disk. This is your chance to specify a password that will only be used by you while using RamDisk Plus. One important feature of the RAM Disk is that it allows you to make the system use the maximum amount of RAM that it was able to use. When you create your RAM Disk, the size will be displayed in megabytes. When you go to the system settings and click Memory, you will see the total amount of RAM that the system is using. Let’s assume that RamDisk Plus has assigned the last 1000MB of RAM that is not being used by the OS. In this case the total number of megabytes would be 3,344,960. Now let’s take that number and reduce it by 3GB to determine the actual number of megabytes that the system can use: 3,344,960 – 3,344,957 = 2MB.

You can install an entire application into a RamDisk drive volume and run the application at the speed of memory. After adding data to the RAM disk, you can navigate the drive on your computer’s file manager. There is even a graphical representation of the RAM disk contents. You can view, copy, and delete files and folders with Windows Explorer.
Where do all of those files come from? GiliSoft RAMDisk scans the whole system to identify unused space and then makes it available for your virtual disk. The RAM disk can be viewed in Windows Explorer or other applications. The disk size is automatically selected and can be easily reduced or enlarged by dragging and dropping the boundaries of the virtual disk in the Windows Explorer window.
In order to maintain a functional RAM disk, GiliSoft RAMDisk periodically tests the disk contents. Should any errors be detected, it then proceeds to create a backup of the entire contents of the RAM disk. The backup file is saved to either a dedicated backup storage location or directly to the Windows Backup folder. The backup file is then renamed to match the original file name.
