thus, the gbm classifier (gbm_random) with random over-sampling technique (gbm_smote) was selected as the final model to predict the performance of players. the full results for model selection process are presented in table 3. the model performance was evaluated by rmse, mae, mape, and roc auc. it is worth noting that rmse, mae, and mape values for gbm_random model are very similar. the difference between them was around 0.4 for mae and roc auc, and around 0.1 for rmse. these are negligible differences and indicate that gbm_random model is suitable for real-time prediction. these slight changes in rmse, mae, and mape values are due to the use of smote technique. the roc auc is slightly higher for the gbm_random model than the others, which may be due to the machine learning and deep learning in sport: predicting nba players performance and popularityall authors nguyen hoang nguyen, duy thien an nguyen, bingkun ma & jiang hu published online:28 september 2021

game mode = the number of teams in a game. the number of players in a game is a function of the number of teams. for instance, the number of players in a 10v10 team game is 10 players. 6v6 is a number of players where 5 of them are on the same team and one is the opposing team. 1v1 or 1v2 is a single player against another single player.
game type = the type of gameplay supported by the game. pointers to game modes are keyed by their name so map rotation games can still use these statistics. for instance, match.view and match.comment can be used to retrieve win percentages, but not necessarily the win percentages for individual players.
