Prehistory

AutoCAD was developed at the former National Center for Airborne Communications by Ken Urmson, Gary Gray, and Larry Tesler. The name was borrowed from a U.S. military program, the Airborne Computer Graphics System (ACGS), which was introduced in 1962. A later plan to develop a product called Tractacle was abandoned in 1970.

Work on a 2D CAD system began in 1969. The first working model was called “Viewtron”, and was unveiled on October 16, 1970 at a CHAOS Conference in Seattle. In 1970, the Viewtron was adopted by the state of Michigan as its CAD system for the Michigandersource electronic drafting. The Viewtron’s graphics display subsystem was implemented using cathode ray tubes (CRTs) to display graphics, which were updated by the drawing process. It required 5 IBM 5110 batch processing computers. The Viewtron had to be updated every time a model was redrawn. It was discontinued in 1974 when a similar program called Interplan was introduced.

While Urmson, Tesler and Gray were working on AutoCAD, George Deutsch was developing the first object-oriented CAD system, DEL. Like earlier CAD programs, DEL was a word processor and had to be carefully updated after each model was redrawn.

AutoCAD was introduced on December 1, 1982, for MS-DOS and Apple Macintosh and was available to consumers for the first time at Expo West in May 1983.

After the first release, most of the tools were proprietary, but with the introduction of the “AutoLISP” in 1987, the user interface could be readily modified, a feature in later versions of the software.

Day of action to protest Freddie Gray’s death.

On Saturday, May 10, 2015, a crowd of thousands flooded the streets of Baltimore to protest police brutality, racism and state violence. The #BlackLivesMatter movement erupted in Baltimore on April 12, 2015 in response to the acquittal of Freddie Gray’s killer, Baltimore police officer Caesar Goodson, Jr. and the death of Gray, who was critically injured in police custody. Activists gathered to protest the acquittal, as well as continue on the fight for police reform, and demand better accountability, justice and resources for the Black community. In response to Gray’s death, protesters are using the #HandsUpDontShoot chant to bring to light the fact that law enforcement officers routinely use deadly force against the unarmed, as well as people of color and poor communities. Freddie Gray was unarmed at the time of his arrest.

Over the weekend, we were present at the Freddie Gray protest, and captured images from the streets.

The path is case-insensitive.

If you do not need to generate the model in a batch, then go to the Folder path.

Select your PDB file.
Right click and click open.
A text box will appear on the right side.
In that text box, enter your serial number and press enter.
Save it.

Save the file and close the program.

Go back to the batch file and add the following in the line where you have already used the filename from the “input_pdbfile” variable.
