The Steelers are dealing with an injury to one of their top receivers, but don’t expect them to bench Antonio Brown, who’s heading into a prime-time game against the Cleveland Browns.
Coach Mike Tomlin addressed Brown’s status during a press conference on Wednesday, and he said the All-Pro wideout will not sit out the game. Tomlin also said Brown will likely play with whatever kind of pain he’s dealing with, adding that he’s not going to take a hit off the bench.
“We’re a better team when Antonio Brown is on that field,” Tomlin said at his weekly press conference. “He’s had a little niggle and he’s going to get right, and when we get him back on the field that’s going to be a big boost for us.”
Brown has missed two games since returning from a one-game leave of absence in Week 4. He was not at practice Wednesday or Thursday, and was listed as questionable on the final injury report. Tomlin said Brown should be fully able to play when the Steelers take on the Cleveland Browns.
Brown has been on the field for all of Pittsburgh’s wins this season and has at least one catch in all eight games.
The Steelers have held back Brown and Ben Roethlisberger for a few big games this season, starting the first three contests before Brown returned from his one-game leave of absence. Pittsburgh lost in Week 4, but the Steelers went on to clinch the AFC North and earn a first-round bye in the playoffs with a sweep of the New York Giants.
Brown caught 20 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s 21-13 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 12. The wide receiver suffered the injury to his left hand during the Week 12 game and missed the Steelers’ 24-17 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13.
