Radford’s book “Solving the Greatest Mystery in Science” is devoted to trying to debunk such ideas.

“I’m skeptical of the idea of life after death and I don’t believe in ghosts,” Radford told me. “I don’t accept the existence of the afterlife as a reality.

“For that reason, I’m willing to entertain the claims of near-death experiencers [people who claim they had a near-death experience] because of the profound way their experiences make them feel.
