How to exit mysql CLI

I know this has been asked before but I have not found an accepted answer.
When I press ctrl+D, it exits my program but MySQL doesn’t return anything back to me.
EDIT: it’s working.

It depends on the terminal application you’re using. Most of them will return a ‘
‘ as the terminator, so you have to type that.
On Linux, you would type:
> exit

In MySQL CLI, it’s:
> \!

For mysql 5.5, Here is the command:
> prompt

or
Prompt?>
exit

When I press ctrl+D, it exits my program but MySQL doesn’t return anything back to me.

If you’re using Linux, I recommend you use pgrep to find the PID:
$ pgrep -x mysql

Then kill the PID, and MySQL should exit automatically and leave you with your prompt again.
$ kill -9 1234
